Bulgaria Introduces Digital Nomad Visa to Boost Tech and Innovation Ecosystem
Bulgaria is officially joining the growing list of countries welcoming remote workers. The Bulgarian Parliament has passed new legislation introducing a dedicated visa for digital nomads, with more than 73% of MPs backing the proposal during its second reading.
The update to the Foreigners in the Republic of Bulgaria Act establishes a new residence permit for individuals who work remotely and wish to live in Bulgaria while contributing to its economy and innovation landscape.
The legislative push was promoted by the New Balkans Law Office in collaboration with The Bulgarian Entrepreneurial Association (BESCO).
The new visa aims to:
- Attract foreign talent and investment,
- Stimulate the growth of Bulgaria’s tech and innovation sectors through knowledge sharing,
- Support regional development and tourism,
- And boost the country’s image as an emerging innovation hub in Europe.
The changes will come into force after publication in the State Gazette, expected within the next 15 days.
