The Ministry of Defense has created a Space Policy Department. The goal is to have our own satellites for defense
The Space Policy Directorate has been established at the Ministry of Defense. This was announced during the Space For Ukraine forum. The main goal of the new structure is to combine internal and external opportunities for the development of Ukrainian military space.
- The department will develop the regulatory framework, search for the most relevant space technologies, and become a single point of entry for interaction between developers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and international partners.
«For decades, Ukrainian scientists, engineers and industrialists have been creating a large scientific base and developing advanced space technologies. On this basis, we will create new capabilities that will strengthen the Defense Forces,» emphasized Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine for Digitalization Kateryna Chernogorenko.
- According to her, over the three years of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has gained experience in the space sector thanks to its partners, and is ready to «realize its space ambitions.»
Management objectives for 10 years
- In the next two years, the Space Policy Office will conduct an audit of the space infrastructure to identify critical needs. Strategic documents will also be drafted to determine the industry’s development vector.
- The next step is to develop our own satellites and space situational awareness systems and integrate them into defense technologies.
- The final step will be the creation of an integrated space defense segment – a satellite grouping that will provide real-time analytics and become part of global security projects.
