Burny Games’ New Title Hits 2 Million Downloads and Breaks Into Google Play and App Store Charts
Burny Games’ New Title Hits 2 Million Downloads and Breaks Into Google Play and App Store Charts Ukrainian studio Burny Games, a product-focused and publishing-driven mobile game developer, has launched Colorwood Associations, its first project in the publishing space. Burny Games led the product vision and visual quality, while Portugal-based Infinity Games handled idea execution, development, and production.
In just four months, Colorwood Associations has surpassed 2 million downloads and now consistently ranks among the top puzzle games in the US and Portugal on both Google Play and the App Store. Burny Games producer and project manager Mariia Myronenko shared insights into the teams’ approach and working principles behind the game’s success.
How Colorwood Associations Works: Game Logic and Level Design
Colorwood Associations is a puzzle game in which players identify meaningful connections between words and group them into logical sets of four. At the core of the experience is a carefully designed level system that gradually trains players to think associatively. At first, the words appear random, but with each attempt, patterns and logical links start to emerge.
For example, stewardess, airport, baggage, and runway come together to form the concept of «airplane,» which can later become part of a broader category such as «transportation.» This layered logic delivers both a satisfying intellectual challenge and a clear «aha» moment when the puzzle clicks into place.
«We spent a lot of time refining the logic of the levels. It was important to us that the game didn’t test knowledge, but trained the ability to see connections. The difficulty should feel deep, not frustrating,» Mariia Myronenko, Producer and Project Manager at Burny Games
The game places no time limits on players and does not punish mistakes — words can be rearranged freely until the correct combination is found. This makes Colorwood Associations equally comfortable for short sessions and longer, more immersive play. The game supports more than 10 languages, including Ukrainian, English, German, Portuguese, Japanese, and Korean, and currently features 700 unique levels.

Visually, Colorwood Associations follows the signature Colorwood style — minimalistic, calm, and highly functional. The artwork and interface are designed not to distract, but to help players stay focused on finding connections.
The soft color palette, clean typography, and subtle hint system were created through close collaboration between designers and producers from both teams. In the Burny Games–Infinity Games partnership, visual design was treated as a tool that directly influences how players think and how long they stay engaged.
Partnership Model
All major product decisions — from level logic to visual style and monetization — were made collaboratively by the teams in Ukraine and Portugal. This setup required a high level of trust, transparent communication, and strong soft skills.
The close partnership allowed the teams to reach an MVP in under two months while also setting a high-quality bar for future scaling.
Monetization Approach
Colorwood Associations uses a hybrid monetization model, combining ads and in-game purchases. The guiding principle was to strike a balance between revenue and player comfort.
Monetization decisions were made jointly: both teams analyzed player behavior, tested different formats, and adjusted the model so it wouldn’t disrupt gameplay or undermine the feeling of a «calm game for reflection.»
Results
Strong product execution and the partnership-driven development model delivered clear results. Colorwood Associations achieved high first-day retention, especially on Android, a key metric for associative puzzle games.
Since launch, the game has passed 2 million downloads. Its largest audiences are in the US, Brazil, the UK, France, and Mexico, and it regularly ranks in the top five puzzle games in the US and Portugal on both Google Play and the App Store.
Colorwood Associations is available on Android and iOS.
