Zelenskyy Offers Mykhailo Fedorov Role of Defense Minister

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that he has proposed appointing First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov as the country’s new Minister of Defense.

Zelenskyy made the announcement during his evening address to the nation.

Fedorov is deeply involved in issues related to drones and has been working very effectively on the digitalization of public services and government processes.

Together with our military personnel, the military command, national arms manufacturers, and Ukraine’s partners, we need to implement changes in the defense sector that will deliver results.

Fedorov himself has not yet commented publicly on the proposal. However, the decision appears to have been agreed upon and is now awaiting an official announcement. As of now, there is no corresponding decree published on the president’s website.

Zelenskyy also added that Denys Shmyhal, who currently heads the Ministry of Defense, will remain part of the government team but will move to a different position.
