Plarium in Ukraine Is Downsizing: What Is Known

Plarium’s Ukrainian office is facing a new round of downsizing, GameDev DOU reports. The company has not disclosed how many specialists will be affected, but it is known that the reductions will target non-gaming divisions and will impact all companies within the MTG group.

For reference: in February 2025, Swedish media giant MTG acquired Plarium for $820 million.

What Happened

  • In October, MTG announced plans to split its business into midcore and casual divisions. The restructuring is expected to be completed by January 2026. As part of the process, MTG will merge Plarium with several other studios into a new unit called the Midcore District. The studios joining Plarium in this division include Futureplay, InnoGames, Snowprint, Hutch, and Ninja Kiwi.
  • According to MTG, some roles at both Plarium and other midcore studios will be restructured or changed.

«MTG is transforming its entire Midcore organization, which includes Plarium and other midcore studios, and preparing to transition to the newly announced District model. The goal is to give MTG studios more opportunities to create and support games, while receiving support from flexible, efficient central tools and services.

This transformation program is designed to optimize operational processes within the group to accelerate execution and strengthen business resilience, enabling further investment in games and content. The organizational changes do not affect our current development pipeline or project schedules.

As part of this process, certain roles at both Plarium and other Midcore MTG studios will undergo changes. We support employees affected by these changes and provide a comprehensive assistance package, including financial support, recommendation letters, help preparing CVs or portfolios, and job search guidance,» Plarium stated.

Employees of the Ukrainian office told reporters that laid-off specialists will receive the equivalent of three months’ salary, and access to company systems will be restricted on the day their employment ends.

Previous layoffs

The last round of downsizing at Plarium occurred in February 2024, also affecting the company’s offices in Ukraine. At that time, Plarium said it would support affected employees with financial packages and assistance in preparing for new job searches.
