Ukrposhta Launches Parcel Lockers Made by Ukrainian Manufacturer Modern Expo

The first Ukrposhta parcel lockers will soon appear in Kyiv and Odesa. According to the head of the national postal operator, Igor Smelyansky, the company has already signed an agreement with Ukrainian manufacturer Modern Expo to supply 100 autonomous parcel lockers. The next step is scaling up the network across the country.

«After a long (over a year) struggle to finally and transparently purchase high-quality parcel lockers adapted to wartime conditions and different customer needs, today Ukrposhta can announce the signing of an agreement for the supply of its own parcel terminals — importantly, made in Ukraine — with the market leader, Modern Expo,» said Smelyansky.

Here is what we know.

Finally, Ukrposhta’s Parcel Lockers

While Nova Poshta is busy installing its 30,000th parcel locker, Ukrposhta is finally joining the race, albeit with quite a delay.

The national postal operator’s first attempt to launch its own network dates back to 2021, when Ukrposhta ran a small pilot project with another Ukrainian manufacturer, Omnic. (After the full-scale invasion, Omnic shifted its focus and now positions itself as an Italian company.) That early effort aimed to build a nationwide network, but the war put those plans on hold.

Now, four years later and after a year spent searching for a reliable supplier, Ukrposhta is finally taking the first real step toward creating its own network of parcel lockers. According to Smelyansky, the first 100 lockers are set to be installed before the New Year: 70 in Kyiv and 30 in Odesa, with nationwide expansion to follow.

What the Ukrposhta Lockers Will Be Like

Ukrposhta’s lockers will allow users to pick up parcels and send letters. Smelyansky said the company plans to replace old street mailboxes with these new lockers.

The devices are fully autonomous and capable of operating without electricity or network connection. They are protected from water, dust, and mechanical damage, meeting modern standards for this kind of equipment.

Customers will be able to retrieve parcels through the recently updated Ukrposhta mobile app (which is now much more user-friendly) or without it, using a PIN code on the locker’s keypad.

Why It Matters

As Ukraine’s national postal operator, Ukrposhta serves millions of customers, but its main competitor, Nova Poshta, has long outpaced it in speed and convenience. One of Nova Poshta’s biggest advantages has been its vast network of parcel lockers, which allow contactless pickup and drop-off at any time.

Ukrposhta, which has been gradually improving delivery times with new sorting centers, is now taking another significant step toward modernizing customer experience. Alongside its latest app, which simplifies shipment registration and tracking for individuals and small businesses, the launch of its own locker network marks a key move in catching up to market expectations.

Today, having parcel lockers is no longer an innovation in last-mile delivery — it’s a basic standard for postal operators and e-commerce giants alike. Companies like Rozetka, Epicenter, and Meest Express are already expanding their own locker networks.

Now, Ukrposhta is finally joining them.
