Firefly Aerospace Acquires US Defense Tech Company SciTec for $855 Million
Firefly Aerospace has announced its first merger and acquisition deal since going public — the $855 million purchase of US defense contractor SciTec.
- The transaction, expected to close by the end of the year, includes $300 million in cash and $555 million in Firefly shares. Following the announcement, Firefly’s stock rose 6%.
- According to the company, the acquisition aims to strengthen Firefly’s position in national security and expand its work with government and defense partners.
- Those already include a $177 million contract with NASA and a $50 million investment from Northrop Grumman.
Firefly plans to integrate SciTec’s advanced software into its own systems to enhance capabilities such as missile detection, tracking, interception, and autonomous command and control. These capabilities will support Firefly’s growing launch and space services portfolio.
Firefly Aerospace went public on Nasdaq in August 2025 with a valuation of $8.5 billion at the time of listing.
