Russia Strikes Bayraktar Drone Plant

On the night of August 28, during a large-scale Russian attack, the Bayraktar drone plant in Kyiv was hit, according to Lviv City Council member Ihor Zinkevych.

  • He reported two direct strikes that caused significant damage to the production facilities.
  • This marks the fourth attack on the plant in the past six months.

«Despite the war and previous strikes, the company continued to invest tens of millions of its own funds, train personnel, and prepare production. Most of the facilities were nearly ready, and the core staff had completed training,» Zinkevych wrote.

The Turkish company Baykar, maker of the Bayraktar drones, began building the Kyiv plant in February 2024. The facility was originally slated for completion this year, but the full extent of the latest damage is still unclear.

Meanwhile, Ukraine endured one of the most massive overnight barrages since the start of the war. On August 28, Russia launched a reported 629 drones and missiles across the country. Kyiv was hit hardest, with more than 20 sites across seven districts struck. Among the targets was a Nova Poshta sorting center, where three employees were injured — one critically and two in moderate condition.

The co-working hub LIFT99 Kyiv was also badly damaged. Founder Ragnar Saas described the destruction as «very serious,» adding that the team is currently assessing the damage and planning recovery efforts.
