Brave1 to Receive UAH 2.7 Billion for Defense Innovations
Ukraine’s parliament has approved budget changes to boost funding for defense technology development. Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov announced that UAH 2.77 billion has been allocated for the Brave1 defense cluster grant program, alongside new funding for BraveTech EU and for strengthening the cybersecurity of the Diia platform.
«Modern warfare is a race of innovation. When the full-scale invasion began, Ukraine was behind the enemy in almost every technological domain. Since then, we’ve built markets for UAVs, GRCs, short-range electronic warfare, and naval drones — developments that have already changed the battlefield. And we cannot afford to stop for even a single day if we want to win the technological war,» Fedorov said.
- The updated Brave1 grant program will receive about UAH 2.77 billion from the state budget, with new grant competitions expected to launch next week.
- Priority areas include artificial intelligence and autonomous missions, missile development, scaling up explosives production, and further innovations in UAVs, ground robotics, unmanned boats, and electronic warfare systems.
- BraveTech EU, a joint grant fund for defense startups from Ukraine and the EU, will receive UAH 1.42 billion to support testing and field trials of specialized equipment, including direct deployment in combat conditions.
- Additionally, UAH 69.4 million will go toward strengthening the cyber defenses of Diia, with plans to upgrade its infrastructure to meet the challenges of cyberwar.
Back in July, Ukraine and the EU unveiled BraveTech EU as a joint technological alliance with €100 million pledged equally by both sides.
