Grammarly, the Ukraine-based company known for its AI-powered communication tools, has unveiled eight specialized AI agents designed to support both students and professionals. The agents aim to streamline writing tasks ranging from source finding and originality checks to predicting reader reactions and evaluating work according to specific criteria.

What are these agents?

• Reader Reactions anticipates how a reader, whether a professor, manager, or client, might interpret the text. It flags potential misunderstandings, unanswered questions, and helps tailor content to the intended audience.

• AI Grader provides feedback based on uploaded evaluation criteria, course details, topic, and open data about the instructor. It offers personalized recommendations and even a preliminary grade before submission.
• Citation Finder finds relevant sources that support, challenge, or refine claims in the text, while automatically generating properly formatted references.
• Expert Review delivers expert-level analysis and personalized feedback on specific topics to raise the academic or professional quality of the work.

• Proofreader suggests in-text improvements for clarity, precision, and confidence customized to the writer’s tone and audience.

• AI Detector assesses whether a piece of writing is more likely AI-generated or human-written, helping users safeguard authenticity.

• Plagiarism Checker scans the work against academic databases, websites, and published materials to flag accidental similarities and ensure proper citation.

• Paraphraser adapts text to the desired tone, audience, or style, whether academic, professional, or creative, while helping writers build a consistent, unique voice.

How they work

According to Grammarly, these agents act immediately without complex prompts. The company says they are designed to encourage responsible AI use, strengthen AI literacy, and uphold academic integrity, while giving professionals more control over style, results, and creativity.

At launch, the agents will be available in docs, Grammarly’s new AI-native editor that supports writing and refining documents in real time. The editor is tailored to academic needs, like conducting deeper research or structuring feedback, as well as professional use cases, such as crafting clearer and more persuasive communication.

The company says this release marks the first step in transforming Grammarly into a broader platform where AI agents can work directly within users’ daily workflows. Docs also integrates AI Chat, a conversational assistant for brainstorming, summarizing, and improving writing projects.

Availability and pricing

The new agents will roll out first in Grammarly Free and Grammarly Pro. Later this year, the company plans to expand access to Grammarly Enterprise and Grammarly for Education customers.

Two of the most in-demand tools — AI Detector and Plagiarism Checker — will initially be exclusive to Pro users.

The agents will be available in docs at no additional cost, with a gradual rollout planned across Grammarly’s network of 500,000+ supported websites and apps.
